In Chaos – a work in progress about a life in progress Alice Klugherz realizes that at 64, life has started without her—and if she could just catch up! Delving into the existential with incisive humor, Klugherz incorporates dance, talking, and whimsy in a multifaceted tour de force of to-do lists, password frustration, and boomer memories interrupted by parental voices and dance breaks.
Alice Klugherz creates work from an aging, feminist perspective. Her mission is to make solo and group pieces that keep woman’s issues from becoming invisible. With a background in dance, theatre, writing and painting, Alice Klugherz started presenting her docu-whimsy talk/dance work in 1988, in New York City. She has received an Independent Challenge Grant from The Field and a Public Imaginations Grant from Dance Theatre Workshop. In 2017 and 2018 she received LMCC’s Creative Imaginations grants for Natural Selection and DePression Pink both full evening performances at University Settlement. She has participated in several artist retreats including the Millay Artist Colony, Palenville, Earthdance and Mount Tremper Arts. Ms Klugherz presented NATURAL SELECTION, in 2017. “Bloody Business”, a solo, was performed at PS122’s Avant-Garde-Arama in 2013; and in 2016 at Dixon Place; “Fresh”, about cleavage after 40, performed as part of Woman in Motion (2015) and at Valerie Greens “Green Space” in 2016. Her ensemble work “Fishland” was performed as part of Figment NYC in 2012; “Symptoms”, about menopause, was performed at Dance Theater Workshop’s FRESH TRACKS in 2002 and at WET in 2006. She is was a regular reader at the late Cornelia Street Café’s Monologues and Madness.
