Xan Burley and Alex Springer’s latest duet, You being Me being You and the Eye, reveals layered attempts at newness, at defining voice in all its forms. Part field study, part composed duet, this two-fold project aims to examine and develop movement signatures through mimicry and embodiment.

Xan Burley and Alex Springer are Brooklyn-based performers, choreographers, teachers, and arts administrators. Since 2008, their collaborative work has been presented in NYC by Center for Performance Research (2016 Technical Residency recipients), DraftWork at Danspace Project, Movement Research at the Judson Church, University Settlement (2013-14 Artists-in-Residence), BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange (2011 Space Grant Recipients), DanceNOW (2011 Joe’s Pub Encore Challenge winners), the 92Y, and Triskelion Arts, among others. They have enjoyed creating work for many university dance departments and professional companies throughout the U.S., including Zenon Dance Company in Minnesota this April. Their choreography appears in the feature-length film Frances Ha (2013). They enjoy teaching stints at Gibney Dance Center and Mark Morris Dance Center and were honored to receive the 2015 Emerging Artist Award from their alma mater, the University of Michigan.
