I’m really glad that Performance Mix #34: Remotely Yours turned out to be so productive for me. I was able to wrap my head around the ideas that were all circling in my head.
Rooster & Snowball is a densely-packed dance, yelling and inside jokes. In its own words, the piece is: “Two crazy motherfuckers trying to change the modern dance world right before your very eyes.”
Magda and Chelsea began collaborating in 2012, while studying at the Headlong Performance Institute in Philadelphia. Their first piece together: Rooster & Snowball went on to be presented through Jumpstart LiveArts, DanceNOW at Joe’s Pub, and the Effervescent Collective. While continuing to tour excerpts of this piece, they are also working on an evening-length version to be unveiled in 2014. They are booked to participate (as a duo) in the ReMix Festival with Susan Rethorst this April.
Chelsea Murphy graduated from Goucher College in May 2012 with a degree in dance and psychology. She danced with Effervescent Collective in Baltimore. Her new life in Philadelphia includes managing the Arts Parlor and working on a collaborative project with David Brick and Magda San Millan.
Magda San Millan holds a degree in dance from Bard College, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cocoon Theatre. She works as an artist-in-residence at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has performed with local names such as Meg Foley and NoFace Performance Group.
