Dana Michel and Tracy Maurice

Dana Michel is a live artist. She is currently touring three solo performance works: YELLOW TOWEL, MERCURIAL GEORGE and CUTLASS SPRING. In 2014, she was awarded the newly created ImPulsTanz Award (Vienna) in recognition for outstanding artistic accomplishments, and was highlighted among notable female choreographers of the year by the New York Times. In 2017, she was awarded the Silver Lion for Innovation in Dance at the Venice Biennale. In 2018, she became the first ever dance artist in residence at the National Arts Centre, Canada. In 2019, she was awarded the ANTI Festival International Prize for Live Art (Kuopio, Finland). Based in Montreal, she is an associate artist with Par.B.L.eux.

Tracy Maurice is a Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker who works across mediums in art, design & film/video. Her research-based practice embraces material exploration & analog special effects techniques. Themes often explore nature, temporality, & movement. Her work has been shown at 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (QC), The Lincoln Center (NY), & Nuit Blanche (TO). Maurice was the Creative Director for the band Arcade Fire & created album artwork, music videos & live content for the albums Funeral & Neon Bible, including the interactive music video for the band’s single, “Black Mirror.” She has given talks at Berklee College of Music, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, HFBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg and taught at the IDFA Film Academy at the University of California at Berkeley.

Lay them all down (installation)

Canadian choreographer and performer Dana Michel and multidisciplinary artist Tracy Maurice’s film, Lay them all down, will be presented as an installation. The film, which premiered at the 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (September-November 2020), features “Michel moving through physical frustration with humor and candor, while Maurice drives the camera over the floor, amplifying all sounds, using her body as a tripod that advances and collapses.” (Amelia Bande for Berlin Biennial 2020)
