Makayla Peterson/ Monét Movement Productions: The Collective (MMPTC) is a multifaceted dance company founded in May 2020. The Collective highlights the versatility of the dancing and choreographic vessel by showcasing works ranging from contemporary to Afro-Caribbean. We create space for the FUZION of genres. MMPTC presents bodies of work and curates cultural events that embrace Caribbean culture and spotlight Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural values. Through innovative choreography and intentional movement, Monét Movement Productions: The Collective shares stories that are personal, social, and cultural in nature. All elements of the artistic voice are embraced by honoring tradition, innovation, freedom, and imagination in dance.
demerara A collection of poems selected from Brown Sugar Lit’s published zines exploring the themes of identity, femininity, and Black strength through spoken word and dance. At the heart of the movement is the continued embodiment of Black woman liberation, connection to their ancestors, and the reclamation of the Caribbean dancing body through joy and resistance.
“This current global situation is immensely sad and challenging, including the necessary cancellations/ postponements/ restructuring of opportunities, but we are so grateful for how you and the Performance Mix #34: Remotely Yours team has honored all of the artists involved – artistically, financially, and emotionally. In these uncertain, confusing times, we feel taken care of & clearly communicated with. Thank you.”
