“I’m really glad that Performance Mix #34: Remotely Yours turned out to be so productive for me. I was able to wrap my head around the ideas that were all circling in my head.”

Brooklyn Studios for Dance (BkSD) is pleased to announce the presentation of Karen Bernard’s Showgirls following a twelve-week residency. Showgirls runs May 17-19, 2018, 8 PM at Brooklyn Studios for Dance. The residency is curated by founder and director of BkSD, Pepper Fajans.
Karen Bernard is known for creating a storm of references on the body. In Showgirls, she delves into a delicious deconstruction of glamour in decline. Using evocative imagery of a crumbling Venice juxtaposed with sumptuously adorned dancers in high heels who strut their stuff unapologetically, Bernard orchestrates a visually rich and thought provoking performance that swirls around the audience. Bernard’s Showgirls recognize their imperfections and deny those of the world around them, creating an emotionally charged and complex vision of nostalgia.
Showgirls is created and performed by Karen Bernard. Collaborators include dramaturg Andi Stover, performers Jil Guyon, Rachel Thorne Germond and Lisa Parra; costume designer Hwa Park, and lighting designer Emma Rivera.
Tickets for Showgirls are $20 and can be purchased online here.
