Emily Kyoko Shari is an interdisciplinary artist and dancer from Brooklyn. Her movement style stems from a strong foundation in ballet and modern dance. She trained at the School of American Ballet, the Martha Graham School, and the Paul Taylor School. She went on to study contemporary dance and sculpture at Hampshire College, where she received her BA. Her work blends movement and design by creating sculptures with interaction in mind. Through her abstract sculptures, she explores the possibilities of movement to reveal a nuanced conception of dance. Her approach to dance recontextualizes everyday movements and illuminates the desire paths our bodies have with our environment.
“Congratulations on your Performance Mix #34: Remotely Yours initiative. I hope you all feel delighted with the experience. I must admit that it challenged me to do something a little bit out of my zone. But I am quite happy with the outcome. The first project featuring my son! It will be an unforgettable moment when we will look back at it in a few years.”
