IT OcCurS to mE is a profoundly physical exploration of a defining moment. Choreography, performance and costume by Barbara Mahler, sound score by Wayne Lopes (1996).
Barbara Mahler is a choreographer/performer, movement educator, and a certified practitioner and teacher of Zero Balancing—a hands-on bodywork technique. Since 1983, Mahler has been teaching and exploring the unique perspectives of Klein Technique, and is a master teacher of the work, instrumental in its outreach, applying the principles to dance and movement from all points of view. In the late 1990s Mahler began creating small and intimate dances, all earmarked with her subtle shifts of texture, time, and architecture, all nonlinear stories. Mahler’s work has been presented both nationally and internationally, and has been a recipient of BAX 2013 artists in progress award in Arts Education. Most recently she was in Jaffa, Israel; at Independent Dance (ID) in London; and will soon be in Vienna and Ireland. In NY she has been presented by Judson Church as part of the Movement Research Presenting Series, Danspace Project, numerous times in the NDA annual festival, Dixon Place, 92nd Street Y, BAX, Green Space/Take Root, HERE, The Flea Theater, and other venues.
