Michael Freeman

Michael Freeman
Writer and performer Michael Freeman’s It’s not that I have anything against living… tells the story of a gay Goth teenager in a small Amish town. Twisted dancing, dreadful puppetry, and a make-up table are all employed in this unlikely, genre-defying show.
Michael Freeman is a writer and performer working toward an evening-length theater/dance work that combines his decades of study in dance, theater, and clowning. His interest in writing began in school at Empire State College in 2011 and he has since been published and received several awards and a fellowship for his work. He studied Native American clown technique in Canada and was a dance scholarship student in the 1990s with the Martha Graham School and Bessie Schonberg. He has appeared in many films and commercials, and on stage as a clown, mime, and actor. His choreography and plays have been shown at the Secret Theatre, the Brick theater (Hell Festival/ Tiny Theater), Movement Research, HERE Arts Center (FUSE/Performance Mix), Mulberry Street Theater (New Steps), HOT Festival (4X), Toronto Festival of Clowns, From the Hip Horror Festival, Wilmington Fringe Festival, The Flea Theater, and others.
