Rob Flax is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator from Evanston, IL, currently based in Boston. He has performed locally, nationally, and internationally, including opening for such acts as B.B. King and Tower of Power. Recently he contributed violin to the soundtrack of James Franco’s film As I Lay Dying. Flax frequently works with dancers, including collaborations with Alison Chase (of Pilobolus renown), work with improvisers Olivier Besson, Chris Aiken, and Angie Hauser, as well as accompaniment for dance classes at Boston Conservatory. He has also been a featured performer and instructor at the Bates Dance Festival every summer since 2012. Flax is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory (M.M. 2012, Contemporary Improvisation) where he also pursued a concentration in music in education.
