Julian Barnett and Jocelyn Tobias’ ODE2FOOL questions the notion of artistic devotion by excavating the dances that exist in our dreams, the ones that have yet to be realized. Part opera, part confessional, ODE2FOOL acts as an ontological study of connection, commitment, and resilience, and follows Barnett, Tobias, and Justin Cabrillos, as they uncover the deeper currents of their artistic motivations.

Julian Barnett and Jocelyn Tobias create performances that examine the social-political possibilities for transformation and empathy, through the lenses of dance, philosophy, musicology, science, and the supernatural. Over the last 6 years, they have built critically acclaimed works that research the intersection between art and choreography. Their most recent work BLUEMARBLE, explores the astrophysical phenomena of the ‘overview affect’ and premiered at Kampnagel in Hamburg and Danspace Project in New York. Since then, it has performed in Tokyo (Whenever Wherever Festival), Los Angeles (Pieter Performance Space), Copenhagen (Dansehallerne), Paris (La Briqueterie-CDC Val de Marne), and at Hunter College in New York as part of a symposium on art and science. Their first collaboration BRIDGE, investigates the materiality of communication through singing, rapping and the body. Since its premiere at ArtEZ in the Netherlands, it has been performed in Germany, Austria, Ireland, and the USA. Julian and Jocelyn met while studying at Tisch School of the Arts in New York.
