Lisa Parra

Sabor a mi… A new solo dance that will look at transformation by bridging ideas of original and copy within the context of culture, gender and identity. The piece is inspired by images and music from an archival feed of historical portraits of Mexican-American youth culture in Los Angeles, CA.

Lisa Parra is a New York based choreographer and performer. She has presented work at Movement Research Judson Series, Center for Performance Research Spring Movement 2015, Queens Museum, Glasshouse Project, Triskelion Arts Center and Green Space. Internationally she has presented her choreographic work in Portugal, Spain and Mexico. Her video installation Body/Traces has been screened in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Barcelona. Lisa has received support from the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, New York, Choreographic Coding Lab (Motion Bank, William Forsythe), Centro para os Asuntos de Arte e Arquitectura in Guimaraes, Portugal, the Media-Lab Prado, Teatro del Canal in Madrid, and Bilbao Eszena in Bilbao, Spain. Currently she is collaborating with Portuguese artist Daniel Pinheiro on LAND Project, a series of online and network performances. Lisa has also had the pleasure of performing in works by Claire Porter, Karen Bernard, Barbara Mahler and French theatre director Pascal Rambert. In addition, she is a core member of the Artist of Color Council at Movement Research and is on the advisory board at New Dance Alliance.
