Moving Bodies video still by Michele Beck

Moving Bodies is an investigation of movement as an instrument. Michele Beck utilizes video to explore the ambiguous bodily relationships between active and passive roles. Repetition and sound created through the performers’ movement become an accompanying instrument in the piece, together composing a narrative that responds to the rhythmic changes on video.

Michele Beck is visual artist who creates poetic combinations of video, performance, objects and sound.  Her projects take the form of documentary, multi-channel audio/video installation and live performance. The form may change, but her interest in the body as a site for language and expression remains consistent.  Michele’s work has been shown at venues include the Kassler Dokumentarfilm und Videofest, The ICA in London, Galerie Chez Valentin, The Bronx Museum, The Queens Museum and PS122. She is a recipient of grants from NYFA, NYSCA, LMCC and multiple residencies at Yaddo and the Hermitage. She teaches at the New School in New York City.
