Stuart Meyers

Stuart Meyers
Stuart Meyers’s KOPFKINO: head cinema is an interior film reel near ruin. Scenes from German Expressionist horror pictures (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, Nosferatu) rewind, fast-forward, stick in static, and play in repeat. Old images reform into an uncomfortably contemporary composition, revealing a nightmarish and anxious interwar landscape not so different from our own.
Stuart Meyers is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working in performance. He creates dance theatre, events, videos and installations. As a performer, he’s worked alongside the artists Robert Wilson, Christopher Williams, Thomas Bo Nilsson, Colette Sadler, Julian Webber, Nick Cave and Tino Sehgal, performing in many international festivals, museums and theatres including Martin Gropius Bau (Berlin), The Stedelijk (Amsterdam), Schaubuhne (Berlin), The Armory (NYC), The Shed (NYC) and The Southbank Centre (London). His personal work has been shown in Movement Research @ The Judson Church (NYC), ada Studio’s series (Berlin), the STRETCH Festival (Berlin), the SUBMERGE Festival (Berlin), and at CPR (NYC). He also curated and presented work in Berlin’s nGbK and Bethanien galleries.
With funding from the Berlin Senat, Stuart created a Queer, Jew-ish Dreamy & DIY Shabbat Dinner Delight & Extravaganza *The Shabbos Queen*, which combines ritual, performance and a five-course homemade dining experience to celebrate rest and togetherness. The evening has been presented in Berlin, Philadelphia, NYC and Tel Aviv.
Parallel to his artistic work, Stuart’s certified hypnotist (IHF), studies dreams and imagery through a Kabbalistc perspective (Bonnie Buckner) and studied Talmud and Torah as a Drisha Kollel Fellow. He’s also a 2018 danceWEB scholar and a Boston University Graduate (BFA Theatre Arts, Minor Dance).
