Shannon’s art making process involves observing, envisioning, problem solving, and sharing. Shannon seeks her path that is original and aligns with the present moment. Space, sound, movement, texture and imagery interest Shannon and call for her to make art that inspires, that speaks her truth. As a queer Taiwanese that practices breaking, hip hop, contemporary floorwork, and Wing Tsun Martial Arts, Shannon is able to view inward and outward with multiple perspectives; reflect and challenge to find harmony.
Shannon identifies as a multi-disciplinary artist, dancer-choreographer, queer creator. Shannon has shown work in La Mama, Movement Research in Judson Memorial Church, Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, Prospect Park, The Landmark Loew’s Theater, and has done residencies with Dance in Bushwick, Spoke the Hub, Chen Dance Center, and The Creators Collective.
Playing with time, is playing with the connections between beings. If I am faster than time, can I draw you closer?
“My creative history with New Dance Alliance goes a way long. Since my friend, Chivas Sandage brought me to New Dance Alliance to rehearse in early 90’s, the place has become a part of my creative life. The long time existence of the studio and Performance Mix Festival are vital to the artists who seek and explore deep into their process. Whenever I step into the studio, it’s a new space with a lot of memories. I lie down on the floor, listen to my body, and I dance. It is valuable. The time in the space nurtures my practice and artistic vision. Karen’s vision of Lift-Off residency, feedback sessions, providing peer to peer connections are more significant than ever. It has been helping us to get through 2020 and we are going into 2021.”
