Andrea Soto (she/her), raised in Juarez, Mexico, is a first-generation Mexican American movement based artist whose work bridges performance, cultural research, and data-gathering. With a deep connection to her ancestry, her works becomes a poetic ecosystem, holding the body as a site of resistance, connection, and celebration.
Graduated from Calarts, she is a recipient of the Barbara Ensley Award on behalf of the Cunningham Trust and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. Her last public piece, Multitude (1-2) was presented at MAK Center for Art and Architecture for the opening of VALIE EXPORT: EMBODIED. Her performances span national and international platforms, and she continues to work as a dancer, performer, and movement director across Los Angeles, New York and London.
Pa El Chuco
Pa El Chuco is the study of the historical and geographical emergence of the Pachuco movement in our Mexican bodies. A dance of their dance; un danzón made to carry the avidness to exist proudly, and the bold joy of the Mexican American Pachuco culture.
