PMF40 is coming up fast! June is just around the corner…
In just 3 weeks, we will be kicking off our 40th annual Performance Mix Festival in the Underground Theater at Abrons Arts Center! We’re rounding up some of the most compelling voices in experimental dance today. Some have been in the NDA community for decades, while others are new friends.
Here is an exclusive sneak peek of what the PMF40 Artists have been cooking up for you…
First-ever Festival Commission: Ursula Eagly
Ursula Eagly was an NDA Lift Off Artist in 2023.
Eagly will present Collective Imagination, a landing place for Ursula Eagly’s long-term work with group action and using dreamwork as choreographic material. Eagly offers, “Imagining together is easy and hopeful and needed right now.”
NDA Director Karen Bernard remarks that “Eagly’s world is strangely captivating – her work exists at the convergence of consciousness and unconsciousness, and as an audience we get to witness her performers slipping through cracks in reality.”
Don’t miss Urusla’s performance on Thursday, June 4th, Program A, 7pm.
Performance Mix alumni Nami and Martita return!
Two returning artists, Nami Yamamoto and Martita Abril will be performing this year! At NDA we value our growing community of artists and can’t wait for you to experience these artists’ works.
Nami Yamamoto has been presenting and developing work with the NDA for several decades. She was a LiftOff Artist in 2020, PMF Artist in 1996/97, 2012, 2020, and 2021.
Nami will present Future Memory, which began with a conversation with a childhood friend about our aging mothers. Witnessing their fragility reflected our own futures and urgently urged me to confront time—how the past, present, and future must be held, lived, and relived in our bodies.
Nami performs on Friday, June 5th, Program A, 7pm.
Martita Abril (Pichu) has performed at Performance Mix twice before – in 2015 and 2017.
Martita will be revisiting some concepts in combination with some FUnCKy nICE ideas.
Martita performs on Sunday, June 7th, Program B, 1:30pm.
Mix Rookie: Kat Sotelo
Kat Sotelo is a new member of the NDA community!
She will present a doo-wop trio battle for stardom with effervescent, ravenous appetite. Through sugary pop choreography, CCTV video feeds, and interactive set pieces, they shall captivate the audience with dewey-eyed fervor and an impulse to destroy.
Kat performs on Sunday, June 7th, Program D, 5pm.
International Guests: Dorian Nuskind-Oder and Simon Grenier-Poirier, with Elena Lev
Dorian, Simon, and Elena are guest artists hailing from Montreal, Canada. The three have collaborated to produce a mesmerizing choreography blending circus and experimental performance art.
Dorian Nuskind-Oder previously presented at Performance Mix in 2008.
Don’t miss Dorian, Simon, and Elena’s work on Saturday, June 6th, Saturday Night Special, 7pm. This program will be followed by a celebratory reception 8-10pm with DJ Rectum.
Get your tickets today and keep your finger on the pulse of experimental dance in NYC and beyond.

“Congratulations on your Performance Mix #34: Remotely Yours initiative. I hope you all feel delighted with the experience. I must admit that it challenged me to do something a little bit out of my zone. But I am quite happy with the outcome. The first project featuring my son! It will be an unforgettable moment when we will look back at it in a few years.”
