Imani Gaudin is a choreographer, multidisciplinary performance artist, and teacher born and raised in New Orleans. She received a Certificate of Artistry in dance and was awarded the Rose Jackson Moye Award from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. She then received a BFA with honors from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, where she studied abroad at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, Academie Voor Theater en Dans. Gaudin has performed works by Ohad Naharin, Netta Yerushalmy, David Harvey, Carmen Rozestraten, Marcella Lewis, Amos Ben-Tal, Rena Butler, Roderick George, Loni Landon, and Akira Yoshida, among many others. Currently she is a collaborator with TRIBE under the direction of Shamel Pitts, and has also performed and collaborated with Alethea Pace, Kayla Farrish, and Micheal Rice. She is a proud recipient of the Bert Terborgh Dance Award for Leadership and Excellence in Dance, the Minority Scholarship, the Adopt-a-Dancer Scholarship, the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Homer Avila Scholarship Award, the Delta Sigma Theta Artie-Rising Star Award, and the National Performance Network’s Take Notice Fund Award. In March of 2024 she was a resident at Kaastsbaan Cultural Park, and is a Baryshnikov Arts Center and Pepatián Dancing Futures 2024 Artist in Residence. Gaudin has presented work at the Battery Dance Festival, T2 Dance Company’s Versatility Dance Festival, Supper Club Dance, FUSA Dance Festival, Uptown Rising, Emergence Dance Festival, and a dance film for One Day Dance that premiered at JACK in New York. As the artistic director of Gaudanse, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit she founded, she created a collaborative space for artists to provide access and education in dance and the arts.
